Deane Wurster loves to cook. Originally from the Philippines she has lived in Hong Kong, China, Indonesia and now India. She shared some of her Filipino cooking recipes with the WIN(Womens International) Club. Tania Mirchandani was a wonderful host and set up the entire cooking set up in her backyardand. It was a lovely activity well attended by over 25 ladies.

According to Deana, Filipino cooking is simple, but of course all good cooks claim that cooking is easy. It is a combination of many cultures that have influenced the culinary style including Chinese, European, American and Asian cuisines. Colonized by Spain, a strong Spanish influence pervades in many of the dishes.

Deana was shy when explaining her dishes as it was her first time cooking in front of a crowd. She showed us Chicken Afritada and spring rolls. The vegetarian spring roll was a mixture of shitake mushrooms, tofu, red and green bell peppers, cabbage, carrots, and celery, all lightly cooked. The chicken was a tomato based chicken gravy which is accompanied with rice.
